At the Figurative Illustration Workshop the June theme was the “faun” or “satyr”. The costume came together almost without a hitch. There was a last minute dash to track down a UPS truck that had the horns 30 minutes before the workshop was to start – whew! Tim and Brittany brought their dog, Maggie, ...
The Black Swan was the theme for the latest Figurative Illustration Workshop. I painted a “white” swan earlier for a charity auction. When I was returning a costume for an illustration commission they showed me they had just put the Black Swan into the retal stock and I knew right then we were going ...

Oil on panel. 6×8. Painted during the workshop I took this summer with my good friend Scott Tallman Powers. When I sat down at first I was a few feet away from the spot I painted from and the Sears Tower (Willis Tower) wasn’t in view. I moved over closer to a tree for some ...
Day Two: We spent day two at the busy, busy six corners area of Wicker Park. The area has a six corners intersection, an el stop and a park with the block. Very much a deep end of the pool to paint in environment wise. Scott did a demo across from the park painting ...

We spent the morning in Uptown watching a few demos and went over some key tips specific to painting in the city outdoors. Even covering how to deal with people. After we broke for lunch I got started on ...
