C2E2 experience
OK – well I thought I would finally get to my C2E2 experience. I guess my first foray into the mega con scene. The con was comic based, but i did not let that deter me. Also, if you have been to Gen Con and are used to that size art crowd then the comic cons are going to be a bit of a shock. Artist alley was about 500 artists. Albeit, mostly comic artists but there were quite a few brethren among the throng of talent. Such as Drew Baker, Jim Pavelic, Chris Seaman, Dave Doorman, and William O’Connor to name a few. 2010 was the first year for the con. Most start slow but this one I heard was slower than most expected. Usually Sat-Sun are the best days and Friday turned out to be my best and went down hill from there. If I went by print sales I’d be deep in the red. If one of the commissions comes through it will be worth it. I was also surprised to have met so many local artists. I met a lot of great folks. I even had the pleasure of Gary Gianni stopping by my table for a chat. I had a total blast with the people and artists. I know I need to learn the art of table sales and also really work on my presentation. That’s going to be quite a project for August. I really want to be better prepared for a table presentation. And you never know what will sell either. I sold a ton of my angel print “Musing”. more than half my sales were that one image. Crazy. Also, try and prepare some art that might be con specific as long as you’re going to try and sell prints. At some point you can decide on sizes and material that best suits your clients and art. I may switch to more canvas pieces and shoot for bigger sales. Another note, you cannot judge your success based on sales at the beginning of a career. This is all marketing right now and face presence. I over packed considerably for the con. And that was due to my living local. I really need to streamline my table. I’ll be ordering a sweet standing banner. My cool table banner kept falling. Next up for the con circuit will be Gen Con and then Dragon Con in September
